Fat figures are the analytical constituents printed on each product. Our pates are wet food, so their figures are per 100g as served and read lower than a dried treat would. Natural treats vary a little from batch to batch. Always follow your vet's advice on what your dog can have.

How much fat is actually in each one?

Our own figures for this range

Nearly every shop uses the same rule, under 10% fat, and almost none of them tell you where each treat actually sits. These are the declared figures from our own product labels, lowest fat first. The same numbers appear on every product page. Calories are worked out from those same figures, so nothing here is a guess.

Calories are worked out from the declared protein, fat and carbohydrate on each label, the same sum our treat calculator uses, so a figure here always matches the product page. Fat percentage and calories do not move together: a Pure Meat Stick reads richer than the Sweet Potato Slices on fat, but is a fraction of the calories, because one is a 6g stick and the other is a whole pack. Read the two columns together. The pates are wet products, so their figures are per 100g as served and read lower than a dried treat would.

If your vet has given you a fat limit

Of these 24, 20 are at or under 8% fat and 21 are at or under 10%. All 24 are under 14%, which is the line we draw for low fat. The leanest are the Sweet Potato Slices at 0.5% and the Buffalo Horn at 1.6%.

Figures last checked October 2026. Natural treats vary a little from batch to batch. Always follow your vet's advice on what your dog can have.

Questions we get asked

The ones that come up most about this range

What treats are safe for a dog with pancreatitis?

Start with your vet, because how strict you need to be depends on your dog and how recently they were ill. What we can give you is the numbers. The leanest treats in our range are the sweet potato slices at 0.5%, the buffalo horn at 1.6% and the bladder twist at 3%. Every figure on this page comes from the declared analytical constituents, not from a category badge.

What counts as low fat?

We label anything under 14% fat as low fat. It is a useful line but a blunt one, which is why we publish the actual percentage instead of asking you to trust the label. There is a real difference between 0.5% and 9%, and if your dog has had pancreatitis that difference matters.

Which are the least fattening?

The sweet potato slices at 0.5%, by a distance. If you want protein as well, the buffalo horn is the standout at 1.6% fat and 91.4% protein, and the beef pizzle at 3.2% fat and 79.2% protein is close behind.

Is a lean treat still a treat?

Yes, and it still counts. Low fat does not mean no calories. Treats and chews should stay under about a tenth of what your dog eats in a day whatever the fat content, so take them off dinner rather than adding them on top.

What should I avoid if my dog needs to lose weight?

From our own range: sprats at 38% fat, turkey feet at 37.8%, hairless rabbit ears at 34.4%, puffed chicken feet at 34.2%, duck wings at 31.5% and duck feet at 28.3%. All good treats, none of them right for a dog on a diet. We would rather tell you that than let you buy one from the wrong page.

Does low fat mean it lasts less time?

Not at all, and this surprises people. The buffalo horn is the leanest long chew in our range at 1.6% fat and it lasts a large dog two to four months. Fat and durability are not related. What makes a chew last is density and texture, not richness.
