Sustainability

Last updated: 1 September 2026

We're a small, family-run business, so we're not going to pretend we've solved anything. What we can do is tell you honestly how we work and what we're still trying to improve.

What we sell

Everything we stock is a single natural ingredient, air-dried, with nothing artificial added. Much of our range is a part of the animal that would otherwise go to waste in the food chain: ears, tails, tendons, skins and feet. Using those is one of the more sensible things about this trade, and it's why our range looks the way it does.

Where it comes from

Our treats are sourced from suppliers in the UK and Europe rather than further afield, which keeps the distance they travel shorter than it might otherwise be.

Packaging

Our packaging is paper based and comes from Kite Packaging here in the UK. We keep plastic to a minimum wherever we can, and that extends to the stall as well. If you buy from us at a market, your treats go into a paper bag.

Where we can't avoid plastic entirely we'll say so rather than dress it up, and we keep looking for better options as they come along.

Getting it to you

Orders are packed by hand and sent by post. If you're within six miles of us in Alfreton we deliver locally ourselves, so those orders don't go through a courier network at all.

We're also out at markets across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire most weekends, and treats bought at the stall involve no postage whatsoever. If you're local and you're passing, that's genuinely the lowest-impact way to buy from us. Our event schedule has the upcoming dates.

Our promise

We'll only ever make claims on this page that are genuinely true. If we haven't mentioned something, it's usually because we're not doing it yet.

If you have questions about any of this, or suggestions, email us at hello@wagandwhistle.co.uk.
