Hi, we're Jess and Sam. What started as a way to look after our own dog has grown into a small family business we're really proud of.

Our Story

Wag & Whistle didn't start as a business plan. It started with Rory.

He came home as a puppy and almost nothing agreed with him. An unsettled tummy, itchy skin, and a cupboard slowly filling up with half-used bags we couldn't give him. We worked through the supermarket brands, then the ones that call themselves natural, and spent more evenings than we would like to admit comparing one bag of treats to the next.

What sorted it in the end was going simpler rather than cleverer. Single ingredients, air-dried, nothing added. His tummy settled and the scratching stopped, and after months of getting nowhere that felt like a very big deal for something so plain.

Once we knew what we were actually looking for, we started hunting down better versions of it, and it became obvious that plenty of other owners were stuck where we had been. That is really where Wag & Whistle came from.

We are still a small family business, run from home in Alfreton, Derbyshire, with two stalls out at markets and shows most weekends. We don't make any of it ourselves. Everything has been researched, and one of our own dogs has tried it, before it goes anywhere near the site. That keeps our range smaller than most places you will find online, and we are alright with that.

We write up what we learn in our guides, including the less flattering bits, like the chews that are far fattier than everyone assumes.

You'll find us at markets and shows across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and beyond most weekends, with two stalls running. Bring the dog and let them choose for themselves. Most of them know exactly what they want.
