Is lamb good for dogs?

Our lamb ears come in at 75.55% protein and 7.8% fat, which is the highest protein and one of the lowest fats of any ear we stock. Lean and high in protein at the same time is an unusual combination in a chew, and the figures are on the product page so you can check them.

Is this the same as the lamb's ear plant?

No. Lamb's Ear is also the name of a soft silvery plant people grow in borders, which is why the question comes up so often. Ours is an actual ear from a lamb, air-dried, with the fur left on.

Why is the fur left on?

The fur adds natural fibre and roughage, and it is how the ear comes. Leaving it means nothing has been done to the product beyond drying it. There is more like it in our furry treats range.

How do lamb ears compare with cow or pigs ears?

A hairy cow ear is leaner at 6.4% fat but carries 21 points less protein, and it is around 100g against 35g for a lamb ear. A large pigs ear is 20% fat, more than twice the lamb. All six of our ears are compared side by side on the lamb ears page.

Is lamb a good choice for a dog with sensitivities?

It is chicken free, which is the most common thing dogs react to, so it is a sensible swap to try. Lamb is more common in UK dog food than rabbit or goat, so it is less of a novel protein than either. What a single ingredient chew does give you is certainty about exactly what your dog has had.

Why is there only one lamb product?

Because the ear is the one worth having. We would rather stock one lamb product we are happy with than pad the page out. If your dog gets on with it and you want more in the same shape, the hairy cow ear and the goats ear are the nearest things we have.
