Biltong is the snack you hide at the back of the cupboard, and your dog knows exactly where it is. Our Beef Biltong is the dog version: a 30cm strip of 100% beef, air-dried, with none of the salt and spice that goes into yours.

Is biltong safe for dogs?

The biltong in your cupboard is not the same thing as this. Human biltong is cured with salt and rubbed with spices, which is why it is not a dog treat. Ours is made for dogs and nothing else: one ingredient, beef, air-dried, with no salt, no spices, no additives and no preservatives.

It is a tasty snack rather than a long chew, so if you want something to keep them busy for longer, the Beef Pizzle is the one.

Is this the same as the biltong I eat?

No, and please do not share yours. Biltong made for people is cured with a lot of salt and usually spiced with things dogs should not have. Ours is beef and nothing else, air-dried, with no salt, no spices and no additives.

How chewy is it?

Firm rather than hard. It takes a bit of working through, which is good for teeth, but there is nothing in it that could crack one. That makes it a sensible middle ground between a soft treat and a proper long chew.

Can I use it for training?

Yes, and it works well. Tear it into smaller pieces and it becomes a high-value reward. Count it towards the day's food rather than as an extra.

Is it suitable for a dog on a diet?

Yes. At 4.3% fat and 85.8% protein it is one of the better things on the list for a dog losing weight, because it is genuinely lean without being a nothing treat. As with anything, the amount matters as much as the choice.

Suitable for puppies?

Yes, from 12 weeks, and it is soft enough not to trouble teething mouths.
