What is collagen, in a chew?

The connective tissue layer that sits under the skin. It is the same material that holds joints, ligaments and skin together, which is why it gets talked about for those things. Here it is simply a dense, chewy, single-ingredient chew.

Braided or straw, which should I get?

Both are around 30cm. The braid is thicker and chunkier, so it takes a determined dog longer to get through. The straw is a hollow tube, which means you can stuff it. Braid for durability, straw for enrichment.

Is it better than rawhide?

Yes, and it is the closest thing to rawhide in feel without any of the problems. Rawhide is a by-product of the leather trade, often chemically treated, and it swells in the stomach instead of breaking down. Collagen digests properly.

What size dog does it suit?

Medium to large, mostly. At 30cm and this thickness it is a lot of chew for a small dog. A beef pizzle or a paddywack is the better fit if yours is little.

Will it hurt their teeth?

No. It is tough but it has give in it, so there is none of the cracked-tooth risk that comes with a horn, an antler or a bone. That makes it a sensible pick for a powerful chewer you would rather not give something hard to.

Give under supervision and always with fresh water nearby. Take the chew away once it has been worn down small enough to swallow, and let your dog rest between sessions rather than leaving it down all day. As a natural product, size, shape and colour vary from one to the next.
