The biggest bird in the world makes a pretty impressive chew. Our Ostrich Metatarsus Bone is the air-dried lower leg bone of an ostrich, around 300g of it, and nothing else.

Why ostrich?

Because almost no dog has ever eaten it. That makes it a genuinely novel protein, so there is nothing for them to have built up a reaction to. If beef, chicken and pork are all out, this is one of the few bones you can still give.

Is bone safe?

The danger with bone is cooking, which makes it brittle and prone to splintering. This is air-dried, not cooked. Even so, it is a firm chew, so supervise properly, watch how your dog goes at it, and take it away if it wears down small or you spot a sharp edge.

Which dogs does it suit?

Steady gnawers who work at a chew rather than trying to crush it. If your dog bites down hard to break things, a paddywack or a braided collagen is the safer choice.

How long does it last?

A long time. It is one of the more durable things we stock, which makes it good value if it suits your dog.

What age can a dog start?

From six months, once the adult teeth are through. It is a big, firm bone, and a puppy's teeth are still coming in before then.

Watch the first session properly, whatever the size of your dog. If in doubt, wait.
