Are these the raw frozen ones?

No. Most duck necks sold for dogs are raw and frozen, fed as part of a raw diet. Ours are air-dried, so they live in the cupboard rather than the freezer and are fed as a treat. Worth knowing before you order, because the two are not interchangeable.

There is bone in it. Is that safe?

This is the question people actually want answered, so here it is properly. The danger with bone is cooking. Cooked bone goes brittle and splinters, which is why you should never give a dog a bone from your own kitchen. Air-drying is not cooking, so the bone stays soft enough to break down. Duck neck bone is small and soft to begin with, which is why it is often recommended as a first bone-in chew.

That said, supervise every time, and if your dog bolts things whole rather than chewing them, a boneless chew suits them better. A beef pizzle or a paddywack would be our suggestion.

Are duck necks good for dogs?

Yes. Single protein, grain and gluten free, and naturally rich in calcium, potassium, glucosamine and chondroitin. Duck is also completely chicken free, which is the main reason people come to us for it.

Will it suit a dog with allergies?

Duck is one of the better options for a dog who reacts to chicken, which is one of the most common sensitivities we hear about. Introduce it slowly, as with anything new.

Does it clean their teeth?

The bone and cartilage together give a proper scraping action as they crunch through it, which helps with plaque. It is one of the better natural dental chews for that reason.
