The one for a dog you do not know well

Nine different treats in one cracker, so you are not betting the whole thing on a dog liking fish, or chicken, or anything else in particular. If you are buying for somebody else's dog, this is the safest guess in the range.

It also has the doggy chocolate in it, which matters more at Christmas than at any other time of year. Real chocolate is genuinely dangerous for dogs, and a house full of selection boxes is exactly when that goes wrong. This gives them something to unwrap that is actually made for them.

• Peanut Butter Biscuits. Crunchy, peanut butter flavoured bites.
• Bacon Popcorn. A savoury, crunchy, bacon flavoured snack.
• Sweet Potato and Cranberry Bites. A chewy, fruity favourite.
• Mango Jerky. A plant-based chew with a big flavour.
• Banana and Honey Bites. Soft, plant-based treats, free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.

Worth knowing

This is a mix rather than single ingredient treats, so if your dog has allergies, have a read of the list above first. The single ingredient crackers are the safer pick there: turkey, duck or venison.

It is a cracker for the dog, not for the table, so there is nothing in it for a person. It is stocking sized rather than the main present.

140g is a fair amount in one cracker. Treats are meant to stay under about a tenth of what a dog eats in a day, so it is worth spreading across a week rather than handing it all over on Christmas morning.
